BRICKHEAD ASSEMBLAGE SCULPTURES
With his new assemblage sculptures, Tyler brings familiar elements from his larger Colossus and Brickhead Series artworks and combines them with the found object assembly techniques more often associated with the works of folk or ‘outsider’ artists. The result is a striking duality of frivolous absurdity overlaid with what could only be described as a ‘the world is coming to an end’ vision of humanity’s collective doom. These are the sculptural ruins of our own civilization not yet passed.
And while it is clear that Tyler is presenting us with a vision of humankind on the verge of unnamed annihilation, there is a playfulness that suggests it may also be within our nature to laugh all the while, as we march merrily over the edge of our collective precipice.

GARNER BRICKHEAD ASSEMBLAGES
In August of 2011, Hurricane Irene slammed into the Garner Arts Center leaving a sea of mud, debris, bricks and steel in its wake.
Picking through the remnants along the banks of the Minescionga Creek, Tyler created the GARNER Brickhead Assemblage Series.
A portion of the proceeds from all ‘GARNER’ artworks will be used to help re-open the art center.
